Used in Europe in the 17th century, this rapier was brought alongside by gentlemen who used it mainly in duels. It features a steel blade, acute with double-edged hard heel and hexagonal section, shelled at the sharp with small decorations.
The brass-plated metal hilt has a chiselled and open-worked handle with a straight-armed guard and a double-valve shell, plus a bridge to protect the knuckles.
